Well, I said I would not do it because everyone else was doing it, but then I did it anyway! I just had to make this quilt. I fell in love with a strip quilt in the Quilts in Community, OhiosTraditions book. Golly, it was all worn out, patched, faded, and just right up my alley. Not wanting to copy this quilt just as it was, I added the wild flowers. The quilt in the book is made out of wonderful homespun plaids, and has patches on the top and bottom. When I researched the patch thing, I found out it was because men's beards were rough and could wear out the fabric along the edge. When that happened, the women would turn the quilt so that the bottom was at the top and the patched pieces were at the bottom. Guess what? Yes, eventually, the same thing happened and so patches ended up at both ends. I found that to be very charming and part of our past, so I wanted my quilt to have the same worn out look right away. This probably happened to quilts my Gramma would have made.
