My family moved to Orlando, Florida, when I was just a little girl. I missed growing up around my cousins, aunts and uncles. So, when we did get to go back home to Canada for a visit they were always special. I remember when I was sixteen; my parents let me fly home by myself. I was able to spend some time with my Aunt Helen and Uncle Morris on their farm. I lived in the city, so you can imagine what a thrill that was. Besides helping run a farm, my Aunt Helen, worked for the telephone company, in Brussels, Ontario. It was a very small office, with only one operator working at a time. She took me to the telephone office one day and I got to watch her work the switchboard. People would ring the switchboard and ask her to connect them to whomever they wanted to talk with. Each family had their own ring. My Gramma's ring was one long and one short. I bet you remember those days as well. I had such a wonderful time and that is what inspired me to make this quilt.
