There really is a place called Fanshawe Dam. It is located on the Thames River in London, Ontario, Canada. The dam was built in 1950 and completed in 1952 for the purpose of assisting in reducing flood damage in the city of London. My Dad, Murray Parton, and my Grampa, Arthur, both worked on this structure. If you ever get to visit Canada, I think you would enjoy seeing this dam. There are wonderful shops around the area too. When designing this quilt, which is a fan block, I just knew that Fanshawe Dam would be the name. I hope you enjoy making this quilt as much as I did.
