Bats in the Attic

You all have met the Cameron boys, and heard their stories in different patterns that have already been introduced such as "Jeepers Creepers" and "The Old Nag". They certainly did like to have fun! I'm also sure that people who play pranks on others usually do get paid back for what they do. The boys had done enough damage to Dodd Smalden's outhouse and old horse and Dodd had had enough. So, one fall evening he asked the boys if they would come down to help him with some work that needed to be done on his house. He told the boys he was having trouble with some noise in his attic and couldn't figure out what it was. So, the boys showed up ready to help him out. After all, they really did like Dodd. Dodd explained that he was hearing very strange noises up in his attic mostly at night. He explained that he was getting too old to go up the ladder to find out what it was. The boys laughed and said it was probably just his imagination but took the lantern and up the ladder they went. When they got up the ladder and turned up the lantern, they were face to face with about a dozen or so bats that had taken up residence in Dodd's rafters. Dodd knew all the time what they would find and couldn't help snicker when he heard the boys scurry down that ladder and run out the door.
