Crazy quilts were my Gramma's favorite kind to make. I can remember mom saying gramma would use what she had on hand to make them. She was a dressmaker so I like to think she had some stash of her own! Perhaps left over fabrics from customer's that she would make clothes for. Satins, velvets, and then of course, the every day cottons she would use to make the family's every day clothes. What's fun about crazy quilting is that you can use small pieces of various fabrics; stitch them all together with some decorative stitching, add a little applique, if you like, and each one will look different in their own special way. In today's world the word crazy has taken on another form. Introduced by JoAnn Mullally and her wonderful books about "Wool Crazy Quilts" we've been able to make some very fun wool projects. I've even been in a couple of round robin type events where you start a project and send it to others to work on it as well. Those have been tons of fun and I have enjoyed seeing everyone's work when they are returned. Today I'd like to introduce you to some pin cushions I've made. One was actually pieced with fabric then wool applique was applied on top along with the crazy stitches. Others were made with overlapping wool pieces stitched together and then appliqued with wool. I hope you enjoy making these small pin cushions for yourself and/or to share with your friends. These sit in an old wooden carrier in my home. I'm never without a pin cushion to use when I'm stitching.
