I think I've already told you about how wonderful my gramma was in the kitchen. Up before the rooster each morning, she would get the old wood burning stove cranked up. She cooked for a whole lot of people and the smells coming from her kitchen could get your mouth watering just thinking about it. She baked 14 loaves of fresh bread twice a week, put down her own vegetables and churned her own butter. And, my Mom has always told me Gramma did all this without a thought to how hard any of it was. Three meals a day were put on the table. When I decided to make this churn dash quilt I was thinking of her. I have an old butter churn in my home, however, it's not the one gramma had. I think of the old days and how hard it must have been for them. When I talk to my Mom about these things, she always says that they didn't know any different. Simpler times don't always mean easier times. Mom has such fond memories of her childhood and I'm so glad she's shared them with me.
