My Mom grew up in the little town, Cranbrook, Ontario, Canada. It had an Old General Store, a church, and a one-room schoolhouse painted red! The general store was a fun place to go when you were a kid because it had jars fuU of candy on the counter, big barrels of pickles sitting around, aft sorts of dry goods where gramma would pick up the things she needed to make their clothes. There were grain bins full of flour, sugar and such to make life a little easier. Gram ma used to raise chickens and traded her e99s down at the store for the things she needed. And, of course, it was a place where you would see your neighbors and gossip just a little. I can remember, when we made trips back home, visiting that store. It was wonderful and looks just like the old General Stores you see in the old movies. Yes, life was simpler back then.
