Burning the Midnight Oil

When my Mom was growing up there wasn't electricity so most of the chores that needed to be done were accomplished during the day when there was daylight. Everyone was up with the chickens and went to bed early, but Gramma was known to do some mending in the evenings, Grampa might read his bible or the Cameron children could be seen doing their homework around the kitchen table. Allie Forest, the one room schoolhouse teacher supplied them with lots of homework to be done. Having only one teacher, with many students ranging in ages, homework was a necessity to get everyone at the level they needed to be. So, it took a very special oil lamp to sit on the table for everyone to use. Today I have this oil lamp in my home.
